Phonics

At Tymberwood we follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised Scheme. Phonics is taught explicitly and systematically each day in Early Years and Key Stage One, and consolidated throughout KS2.
The structure of a lesson follows this format:
Revisit and Review - flashcards of previously taught graphemes and tricky words
Teach and Practise - new graphemes and tricky words, blending practice, my turn/your turn - reading words with the newly taught grapheme in them
Practise and Apply - reading and holding a sentence in the head, spelling words with new graphemes in and spelling tricky words
We also link phonics to reading in EYFS and KS1. Children receive a decodable text that is linked to the graphemes that they already know and read daily following the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised structure for the teaching of reading.
This has a set structure throughout the week.
We practise: decoding, prosody (how the words are said) and comprehension (understanding what they have read)
Children can then access the texts at home that they have read in class using their own log-ins to the Collins E-hub.
