NURSERY : RATIONALE
Our nursery is a vibrant, child centered setting. We pride ourselves on the stimulating learning environment we have created, where children are invited to explore exciting activities that are inspired by their interests.
The children are offered free flow access to our nursery garden, where they have the opportunity to explore in the woods, get muddy in the kitchen and burn energy on the trikes.
These opportunities for play based learning are balanced with focused teacher led activities where the children are taught key sounds and number facts. This ensures that the children are given solid foundations in the fundamentals of reading, writing and maths and ensures that they are prepared for their first years at school!
We are immensely proud of our provision and the progress that the children make while they are in our nursery. We also take great pride in the enjoyment we see in the children while they are with us.
(See below for pictures!).
We are able to take children from the term following their 3rd birthday.
We currently only run a morning session (8:30am -11:30am) five days a week. Over time we may be able to offer an afternoon session but currently this is not in place. We are acutely aware of our responsibility to ensure pupils receive the full offer during their time at Tymberwood Nursery. We understand that through whole school INSET days and bank holidays, pupils are unable to access the provision, therefore, we have taken decisive and purposeful steps to ensure learning time is both maximised and extended.
As part of the school’s curriculum ‘Big Picture’, we see that giving children enriching opportunities which bring learning to life is crucial. Therefore, we have ensured that trips times have been extended to allow greater time to ignite pupils’ creativity and encourage curiosity.
Furthermore, we know that engaging parents at an early stage is essential in forming strong bonds which can impact learning and relationships (with both school and child) for years to come. Therefore, ‘Stay and Play’ dates have been extended to ensure the fullest offer and allow parents and children greater time to play together within a rich learning environment.
Forging a deep love of reading continues to be an essential part of the schools overarching vision. We want to engage and excite children’s love of books especially nursery rhymes and picture books. This, of course, will have a significant impact on their love for learning. With this in mind, we have extended ‘Family Reading Sessions’ twice per week.
